CLAUDE CHAMPY
Champy declares "I am a potter, not a sculptor. I shape the clay around a hollow which is a totally different approach." The ease with which Champy manipulates the clay into ridges of flowing form is enhanced through the cutting of grooves into the surface which curve and flex around the shape effortlessly. The overall effect is compellingly beautiful and vital. The dynamic of the potter has exploited and teased out the energy which flows from his work.

PETER VOULKOS  1924 - 2002
Perhaps the most influential post-war American potter, giving entirely new significance to ceramic art. Of all the progenitors of contemporary ceramics, Peter Voulkos has had the most profound and broadest influence. He was instrumental in breaking down the barriers between pottery and sculpture. He adopted the Abstract Expressionist's mode of working, making the process and his feelings of the moment the subject of his work. Acknowledged as a Master throughout the world.
